Since children are not getting chickenpox, adults are not getting a "booster" naturally and shingles cases in adults are increasing. Here is an interesting look at the effectiveness of the shingles vaccine. http://www.cbc.ca/news/health/shingles-vaccine-effectiveness-varies-with-age-1.1393815
Unfortunately there seldom full disclosure of effectiveness and side effects of drugs and some vaccines, especially in the elderly (I am not discouraging MMR and polio vaccines for children) Ruthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15892804871759397018noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31402520.post-87479621999570090342015-01-24T12:47:47.595-05:002015-01-24T12:47:47.595-05:00AC--Sorry to get you going. I know you have written about this on Facebook expressing your puzzlement (putting it mildly).

Ginnie--thanks for your kind words.
I too shake my head in disbelief.

Ruth--I checked the U.S. CDC website. They acknowledge that the chickenpox vaccine could activate shingles: but they go on to say--"However, the risk of getting shingles from vaccine-strain VZV after chickenpox vaccination is much lower than getting shingles after natural infection with wild-type VZV."
I have had the shingles vaccine...so I trust I am protected.KGMomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05165941950953938943noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31402520.post-58588610104407866382015-01-24T09:57:21.126-05:002015-01-24T09:57:21.126-05:00I love the word "truthism". There is so ...I love the word "truthism". There is so much of it that truth is hard to discern especially in the internet age. Truthisms are used on both sides of the climate change debate and while I agree that humans are contributing to climate change, the degree of change is uncertain.
I agree with vaccination against some diseases and our children were vaccinated, but don't ask me to take a flu shot. And the chickenpox vaccine is likely causing a rise in the number of adult shingles cases (those are discussions for another time!)Ruthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15892804871759397018noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31402520.post-87304474442042790922015-01-23T15:08:04.075-05:002015-01-23T15:08:04.075-05:00Once again you have written so well about a subjec...Once again you have written so well about a subject that leaves me shaking my head in disbelief.
Thank you !!Ginniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12749133391349265563noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31402520.post-76515831000181510172015-01-23T10:20:45.196-05:002015-01-23T10:20:45.196-05:00It infuriates me, both the climate change part and...It infuriates me, both the climate change part and the vaccination part. People make up their minds based on what just kinda, y'know, sorta like just feels right or fits with their prejudices. Argh! You got me going.
