Channeling My Mother

Yesterday was one of those days--I felt as though I was channeling my mother. She was one of the most energetic industrious people I have ever known. And organized. She could get things done.

I awoke early, before 6 a.m. (in deference to all of you who say--PAH. Early?--understand this is REALLY early for me). Since I was awake, I decided to trim the bushes in the front of the house. Then, I mowed the grass--with all the rain this year, the grass grows quickly.

In the afternoon, I had a dentist appointment--the prior gum surgery turned out well (whew). And then I decided that it was time to round up some neighborhood kids for a summer swim.

After preparing dinner, and upon my husband's return from work (he's the one doing real work--i.e. for pay), we went to the local car dealership to pick up my new car (more on that in a subsequent post).

All in all--a good and productive day.

Now today, I can reflect. In so doing, I note that today is the anniversary of my mother's birth. Were she still alive in the flesh, (she is most certainly alive in our loving memories), she would have been 90.

I'll bet she was pleased with your very productive day!!

(can't wait to hear about the car)

You can't fool me…you were too cranked by that new car to sleep. And being your mother's daughter, you just figured to keep busy until time to go pick it up.

I will concede that "before 6:00 a.m." counts as early in my book, too. That's like 5-something, which even if you're milking cows, is pretty early. I don't know how your house is situated in regards to neighbors, but I hope you didn't get around to that yard mowing until later on in the morning.

Who knows, maybe your run-amok worth ethic will continue until your vehicle loses its new car smell.

I seem to have missed getting the gene that apparently floats around on my paternal side of the family. I am a little disgruntled about this, but I usually sleeep through it. ;) I remember your mom very well...sometimes I think that some of the people we see the least, make the biggest impressions on us. Happy Birthday to your mom!

Lynne--yes, she would have been pleased.

Scribe--you are on to me. Absolutely. When I have something that I am anticipating, I stay outwardly calm, but inwardly excited. I waited until 11 a.m. to mow.

Miriam--interesting that you remember Mother; you would have been how old when you last saw her?

That is a productive day! It feels so good to have days where you feel you've really accomplished a good bit. I am sure your mom was smiling down on you. :c)

My father was the energetic person in our family. In fact, he had a heart attack and died while planting calla lilies. Nice tribute to your mother.

Great news about the new car. Can't wait to hear about it. I should buy a new one in this market since my own car just turned 70K. But I am totally in love with it and can't bear to give it up.

I love a productive day...especially because it is usually followed by a good night's sleep!

Oh, it does feel good to get things done around the house.

But, enquiring minds need to know....let's see that new car!!

I'm tired just reading your post. If I were to channel my mother, I might get more done. I'm glad you had such a productive day!

By the way, I went to another one of those baseball games in the a/c today. It rained outside. There was a delay...not rain, but a power outage caused by the lightning (I presume.) The showed a Bugs Bunny cartoon to the crowd while we waited for the full power to come back on.
