What's Essential

In the last post, I asked what you can't live without. Thanks for all the fascinating answers.

Last evening, I stepped outside to do something, and I noticed the lovely cloud formations. They were breathtakingly dramatic--seeming to portend change. We have had a series of stormy days, but these clouds brought no rain.

As I whirled around, camera in hand, trying to photograph them, I suddenly thought--here's something I can't live without.

I do not enjoy clear cloudless skies all that much. In fact, I avoid too much sun exposure. But I love clouds.

So, I'll share.

It is interesting that we hardly look up at the sky unless there are big fluffy cloud formations. Endless blue with no clouds is just sort of bland, isn't it? :c)

I don't know about the clouds, but I don't think I could live without the open spaces and the woods and creek and fields and fresh air. I don't think I could survive in a big city.

The title of your post reminds me of Antoine de Saint-Expupery: "It is only wiht the heart that one can see rightly. What is essential is invisible to the eye."

Ha ha - that's "Exupery" not "Expupery" - I guess I must always have dogs on the brain somehow!

Your first cloud/sky shot is just terrific.

I'm no fan of bland blue skies, either. And I don't like hot weather or endless summer. One of the reasons I so love the northcountry around Lake Superior is the weather—the changeable skies, intense blues, brooding fronts with walls of black clouds, clouds in wisps and puffs and sweeping stripes; skies of every description and possibility. And seasons that change fundamentally.

The mono landscape of a big city wearies the eye and rots the soul. To me, cities are just one big refuse dump of concrete and glass and steel, overlaid with automotive exhaust stench and the sick-sweet of garbage. I'm with dog-geek in needing woods and fields, birds and wind, and skies dappled with clouds.

We have lots of clouds here - extreme from temps of 37 down to 10 in one week.

I love clouds. I also love green. That is something I found out I cannot live without - the color green in my outside surroundings. The desert landscape bores me.

Beautiful clouds Donna. You're right- clouds paint the sky.

Lovely pictures. Clouds are necessary for spectacular sunrises and sunsets too.

I do love the clear blue sky, but I love more the beautiful clouds such as you've shown here. We have beautiful cloud formations here in Florida too.
