With great regret, I am putting word verification for comments on my blog.
In the past week, I have gotten three different sets of comments on very old blogs. Curious, I checked the first one out--nothing but hyper-links to who knows what. I did not click on any.
Then, yesterday, I got 5 separate comments on old blogs all from the same source, all identical.
And today, I got a comment on an old blog that looks like it has pornography or information on prostitution--if the names in the comment are a true reflection.
Sorry, but I don't support either. So, I will not do anything that facilitates the same. Too many lives have been ruined, and too many people hurt. So, no--I will do what I can to prevent using my blog for any such activity.

I have something similar happen on five of my very old posts today. I deleted them but am very frustrated. I'll check out adding the word verification. Good plan.
I had to add word verification back a while ago when I started getting spam comments in what I believe are Chinese characters!
I have been having the same problems in the last month and added word verification too. I have heard several other bloggers complain of the same this week. The Chinese characters, link to porn sites..
Same thing here... wondering how they find us.
I've been getting similar comments lately—maybe a half-dozen so far. I drop them into Google's "translator" and I believe they come out as being in Japanese. They're not quite pornographic (at least in Google's translation) but they're skirting the edges. So far all I've done is simply deleted them; I don't want to have to use word verification if I don't have to, but maybe it's coming to that. I am sort of glad to hear I'm not the only one out there on whatever list…
I think we've all been hit at one time or another. We'll do the word verification without complaint.
Me too. I did make the effort to delete those comments as I have been given to understand that the number of comments enhance their stats ... or something. The fact that they scatter them so, makes it a bit painful, but I'm willing to do the work.
Interesting, I have word verification and still got two "spams" on old posts yesterday.
I often wonder what is the point? What are these spammers trying to do?
I am surprised so many of those making comments have had similar events on their blog. I have not had anything yet. Touch wood!
Well, it's nice to know I'm not alone, though it's so frustrating, isn't it? Guess whoever this is, they've been visiting quite a few of our blogs somehow.
I have the same thing...and they are all on old blogs. Definitely Japanese characters and I certainly don't open them. I'm getting more and more cautious with the internet.
Donna, I'm sorry to hear that. And yet, I'm also a "victim" of that trash. I have contacted and reported to blogger those "links" as spam. I have also gotten so disgusted by getting so many of them in the past week that I actually went further than word verification -- for a while I am only allowing those folks to comment who are "members." I'm assuming the term "members" are my followers. I figure that in another week or two I can go back to anyone commenting, but for now I had to take measures to stop those people who have nothing better to do in their lives than post "trash" on other people's blogs.
