Happy Birthday, Ghana

I can't let this day go by without noting that today marks the 50th anniversary of independence for Ghana. Ghana was the first country in Africa (south of the Sahara) to achieve its independence from colonial rule. They are rightly proud of this achievement.

My daughter brought to my attention all the coverage being given Ghana's independence, and my brother sent me the BBC link: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/6421421.stm

Happy Birthday, Ghana!

Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday ... -- Oh, not your birthday? Ghana's! Well Happy Birthday to Ghana!

It is interesting to me how different Ghana and Nigeria are, based on the people in Manitoba I know from those two countries. Next door to each other, but quite different. But still Africa, as Kristen's experiences showed.

I'm looking forward to your blogs on Zambia and Zimbabwe when they celebrate their anniversaries.

Please note my birthday greeting coincides with Ghana's 50th anniversary of independence.
Sure, I will blog when Zambia and Zimbabwe each reach that milestone. When?

What do you mean when? You're supposed to know these things? (I answer rhetorically to conceal my own ignorance.)

According to the CIA (yes, THAT one) Zambia's is 24 October 1964.
Zimbabwe's is 18 April 1980.
So if I am still blogging in 2014, I will wish Zambia happy birthday. I think I'll pass on Zimbabwe in 2030!

AMEN. Nice tribute, Donna.
