Supping Along the Susquehanna

This evening, a friend of mine who lives in a lovely old house facing the Susquehanna River invited me to dinner. So, I went with camera in hand, anticipating some time for photographing this lovely old river.

Our dinner setting.

Partially consumed.

My friend's cat--the welcoming committee, sort of. She kept a wary eye out for evening joggers, bicyclists and the never-ending stream of dogs being walked. And then disappearred when anything approximating danger approached.

A roving cat from somewhere nearby--dubbed the Mighty Hunter by my friend. But not a successful hunter--she went home empty-pawed.

A family out for an evening swim.

And the Susquehanna.

I love the view! Was your friend's house threatened in 1972 by the floods following the hurricane (whichever one it was)?

In Winnipeg I saw a family of Canada geese, two elders and five goslings, walking along the road this past week. But the pictures remind me why I think Pennsylvania is one of the world's most beautiful areas.

To all--yes it is a lovely view and was a perfect evening.
Daryl--her house (in Shipoke--see here for a description http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shipoke(Harrisburg)
was flooded, as were all in Shipoke, during Agnes. Periodically, it gets some water with other heavy rains. So, all residents keep NOTHING of any import in their basements. Water heaters, heat pumps, etc. are elevated. During Agnes, most homes had water up into the 1st story. Flood stage for the river is 17 ft.--Agnes got to 33 ft.!

I don't know how far you had to travel for this beauty, but it was definitely worth the drive. Friendship, food and a pleasing setting. Ahhhhhhh.

This looks absolutely lovely and fun. I'm glad you had a great time. The view is great and the sunset is amazing. We also get amazing sunsets here. You just have to stop doing whatever you are doing and stare – sometimes there are no words to describe its beauty. I really need to get a digital camera. I want to be able to capture moments like this.

Lovely pictures. I was trying to remember when we were in your city. I believe it was Sept 2003.(Years blur together!) There had just been a hurricane pass through and there was a lot of flooding. The river was very muddy, and it was cloudy. I remember the bridges.

I'm late, Donna. But I wanted to comment on the great views you shared here. Wow. That is a beautiful river, one that we used to picnic on.

The cat is very pretty, too!
